Professional Facilitation
Over the last year, I have been able to add professional facilitation formal learning, through the Association of Facilitators (AoF at https://www.associationoffacilitators.co.uk) to the practical experience built up over my years with John Lewis. My style is to create a psychologically safe environment where all participants feel able to contribute honestly and openly. I pay close attention to group dynamics and power differentials, ensuring that conversations are not dominated by the most senior contributors.
My experience includes facilitating workshops on change and the employee experience, chairing meetings of elected representative bodies and acting as the independent chair for statutory redundancy consultations.

Creating a psychologically safe space for leaders and elected representatives to speak openly and with candour is a skill I have developed over many years. You will also have a chair who supports and acts as a mentor to leaders and elected representatives outside meetings, too, helping them understand the group dynamics involved and how to maximise their own capabilities.

Proposing to make some of your employees redundant is one of the most difficult decisions for any business to make.

In certain circumstances, you will be required to consult with elected representatives of the affected employees whose roles are proposed as redundant. Employing an independent facilitator to chair that consultation process allows leaders and employees to have confidence in the integrity of the process.
